Uli Buder is a German producer who performs under the moniker Akia. He was born in Hoyerswerda, then East Germany, in 1986, and grew up in Rostock, on the shores of the Baltic Sea. It was there, after having trouble finding musically like-minded partners for a band, that he started working solo as Akia, producing his first tracks on a Korg Electribe EMX 1, under the initial influence of such producers as Console, Apparat and Micronaut. German minimalism in contemporary electronic music would remain one of his most important influences, next to his interest in dub.
